Caregiver Training/Consultation FAQs
Does S'MORE Supports LLC offer intensive ABA services?
TLDR: No, but we can help you find a company who can. Our services are focused on BCBA lead Caregiver Training/Consultation via telehealth
S'MORE Supports LLC does not provide intensive ABA therapy. Our services are focused on BCBA lead Caregiver Training/Consultation via telehealth on how to implement behavior interventions directly. Intensive ABA therapy involves 20-40 hours a week of therapy delivered by a RBT, and supervised by a BCBA. Intensive ABA therapy, when done with trauma-informed neurodivergent affirming practitioners, can be beneficial in cases where interfering behaviors are beyond the level a parent can manage on their own with coaching, a child has significant language delays, or for children learning classroom readiness skills. If you think your child may benefit from intensive ABA services, you may still book a free consultation to discuss options for intensive services in your area as well as what to look for in quality ABA services. You may also be interested in our case management services.
How do I get started with S'MORE Supports LLC?
TLDR: Free Consultation -> Initial Assessment -> Treatment plan review meeting -> Begin Services
The first step to receiving services from S'MORE Supports LLC is to schedule a free 30 minute consultation to discuss your family's service needs and see if S'MORE Supports LLC is a good fit. During this consultation the BCBA will ask questions about your child's skills and challenges to learn more about their possible needs, as well as questions about the child's environment and current services to assess what supports may be appropriate.
Following your free consultation, you will receive an email from S'MORE Supports with recommendations for next steps. This may include links to other resources and service providers, information about how to schedule an initial assessment in order to begin Caregiver Training/Consultative services, or information about case management services.
What is involved in Caregiver Training/Consultative Services with S'MORE Supports LLC?
TLDR: Meeting 1-5 hours a week with a BCBA to learn how to implement interventions and monitor progress on goals outlined by the treatment plan which is created based on an initial assessment.
After your free consultation, the BCBA will customize an assessment for your child based on the information collected during the free consultation. In most cases this will involve a virtual parent interview, and an in person observation. The BCBA will then create a customized treatment plan that will outline the goals and interventions that will be the focus of Caregiver Training/Consultative Services.
Depending on need, caregivers will meet virtually with the BCBA between 1-5 hours a week. Things that may be covered during these meetings include:
Identifying parent values and committed actions with regards to their child's services and interventions
Behavior skills training (BST) on how to implement behavioral interventions such as
Removing environmental barriers
Strategies for avoiding punishment procedures
Reinforcing adaptive behavior using naturalistic reinforcers
Teaching complex multi-step skills using behavior chaining
Shaping behaviors
Identifying self soothing strategies
Teaching complex social skills using BST
Strategies for increasing self advocacy skills
data collection and progress monitoring
Training on how to solve problems collaboratively and proactively with their child when they are having a hard time meeting expectations
Between meetings parents should expect to spend no less than 15 minutes a day implementing behavioral interventions directly with their child, and collecting data on goals. The amount of time spent working directly with your child outside of sessions with the BCBA impacts how effective behavioral interventions are, the more time you can spend (without pushing your child too hard), the more effective the interventions. Data collection will be done through google forms. From there it will be converted into graphs to help visualize your child's progress on treatment plan goals.
How much does S'MORE Supports LLC charge for Caregiver consultation?
Does S'MORE Supports LLC accept insurance?
TLDR: Regrettably no, all of our services are currently private pay only.
To make a very long story short, the state of North Carolina makes it very difficult to practice as a BCBA. Details can be found in the North Carolina Psychology Practice Act and on the North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis website. Discrepancies between insurance requirements and the laws/board guidelines make it difficult for small practices to get paneled with insurance companies. Currently there is no estimated date as to when we will be able to accept insurance.
